Post Distractions and Delays

I have been going to Curves for one month now and am finding with Curves Smart that it is very distracting for me to be talking to someone while I am on the machines. I am not paying attention to the machine's feedback and as a result do not maintain the rhythm and consistency in my workout.

I am also finding that there are still people that workout to their own schedule and stay on the recovery board as longs as they need to complete exercises with no concerns of delaying the movement of people behind them. There were a couple of people like that in my previous curves experience.

I try to go at a time when it is generally not too busy and put as many empty machines ahead of me as I can. Fortunately, being retired I am able to go early in the day.

My best advice would be to just let the chatters know you can't really chat while you're working out, but that the stretching area is a great place to catch up. There is a portion of membership who isn't there to lose a ton of weight, it's more social hour and I've never thought someone rude that didn't join in a discussion....

and unfortunately, because not everyone uses Curves Smart, there will be people who are still on the schedule of queues instead of going by the machine, so it's just something everyone has to get used to, including the people who don't use CS. So maybe you can start as far away from the person not using CS and hopefully they won't cause any delays for either of you.

I always found it useful to puff and look as though I'm truly concentrating when I'm on the machines. As Fordreamin says, tell the chatties later that you'd love to catch up with them while you're stretching or before you start working out. You want to get the most benefit from your workout, but not everyone feels the same way. (It sure would make it easier if they did!)

I remember that people using CS tended to be "slower" getting off machines (because you do a full 30 seconds per machine, as opposed to everyone else who loses about 5 seconds getting situated) so anyone holding up the circuit is definitely doing their own thing. I'd skip a machine ahead if they were holding me up... and go back to it later.

The Curves I go to doesn't seem to be to overly crowded ever, so I haven't really run into problems with people holding me up. This is probably due to our town having a smaller population though. (Less than 50k)

I have noticed that there are some ladies who like to chat throughout their workout, but everybody who does seems to be fine with the non-chatters. I don't like to chat while working out, and honestly, by midway through, I wouldn't be able to keep up both, haha.

Lately I've been really trying to focus on the machines, when I'm breathing, and concentrate on using all my effort, really wearing the muscle group I'm using out. I think it makes a better work-out overall. 8]

Thanks to all who comented on my post. It is good to know that lots of other people aren't interested in chatting during their workout.

Glad I am not the only one that worries about this...

At my Curves I have a real problem with some of the trainers talking to their friends that are on the machines and then that person forgeting to move on quickly when finished.

Now don't get me wrong I don't mind people chatting but when it is busy I just wanna get in do my workout and get on...not getting held up by people having a chat when they can do that other times...

Maybe I am just getting old!

Talk to your trainer. If the CS trainee is trained PROPERLY she will be right on the recorded queue. As soon as she says "CHANGE STATIONS NOW" the CS member needs to place her card in the Success Coach IMMEDIATELY...she has a 2 second grace to get her bum in the seat. Those who do NOT do this will hold others up. If she gets off track, she can correct herself on the recovery board...which might cut her a few seconds, but once she learns to do it correctly it is a beautiful thing. The only reason a CS member would delay or hold anyone up is that she wasn't trained correctly or she is just rude ;-) When I train a new member (or correct/retrain and older member) I make this adamantly clear. It makes a WORLD of difference on he circuit.
