Curves Program FAQs

1. What is a Curves workout?

Curves offers a QuickFit circuit training routine utilizing hydraulic resistance machines. Each machine works two muscle groups and the amount of resistance is determined by the speed with which you move the machine.
In between each machine is a "recovery board". You move around, jogging, or walking in place on this square to maintain your heart rate and rest your muscles before the next machine.
Every 30 seconds, a recorded voice tells you to move to the next station (machine or recovery board).
Depending on how many machines are at your Curves locations, a complete circuit may be 2 or 3 trips around all of the machines. Ask your trainer when you sign up. The "ideal" workout would include 24 machines total, but due to the differences in clubs, you may do a few more to make it easier to keep track of.

The system was designed to provide a complete aerobic and resistance workout, including stretching out afterwards, in 30 minutes, 3 times a week! This allows your muscles to rest and recover in between workouts.

If you wish to exercise on your 'off' days, it is recommended that you do something aerobic that does not work specific muscle groups. If you chose to go to Curves on your "off" days, focus your energy into aerobic activity on the recovery boards, and operate the machines at only about 40-50% of your normal ability. More discussion on that topic is here.

Curves Program FAQs

2. How much does a Curves membership cost?

Monthly membership dues are determined by a couple of things.

1. The cost of doing business (leasing space) in your area.

2. The payment plans available through your Curves.

The monthly fees vary widely, depending on the area, country, cost of doing business, and whether you are signing a year's contract or just going month-to-month. Sign-up fees can vary by promotions and coupons. The best way to get the actual cost at the Curves you are interested in is to call and ask.

Since we are not affiliated with Curves, we don't know what options are avialable to you at your potential location.

6. Does Curves offer child care?

I am not aware of any Curves that offers child care at this time. We have heard of a couple that have play areas for children, but many do not allow them on the premises. The reasons seem to be cost, liability, space and staffing. There are several discussions in the Club Operation forum about this controversial topic.

8. How can I maximize my workout?

Some tips:

- If you feel like you can go more than 35 seconds on a machine, then you are probably not working hard enough.

- If you feel like you can continue after your full workout, then you are probably not working hard enough.

- The recovery boards are to maintain your heart rate. If you need to do jumping jacks on them, then you are probably not working the machines hard enough. More discussion on that topic is here.
